The Band That Invented Several Futures at Once
Few groups in rock history changed direction so many times while maintaining a recognizable identity. The. Byrds constantly seemed to: – invent a new language, – abandon it, – and immediately move toward another future. Within only a few years they helped create: – folk rock, – American psychedelia, – raga rock, – country rock, – and much of future jangle-pop aesthetics.
For this reason their real influence is probably far larger than their current mainstream fame suggests.
