The Man Who Electrified the Delta

Muddy Waters represents one of the great turning points in twentieth-century music. Through him blues gradually stopped being purely rural, acoustic and tied to Southern plantations. It instead became urban, amplified, aggressive, sexual, and physically overwhelming. Muddy brought Mississippi into Chicago. And through him Chicago would eventually transform world rock music.

Songs such as Hoochie Coochie Man, Mannish Boy and Rollin’ Stone became defining landmarks of electric blues and modern rock genealogy.
