The 13th Floor Elevators were not simply another garage band experimenting with LSD. They were among the first groups to openly conceive psychedelic rock as a total mental experience.
The band revolved around the fragile charisma of Roky Erickson and the almost messianic vision of lyricist Tommy Hall, who genuinely believed LSD could accelerate human consciousness.
