The Great Rock and Roll History 1900–1974 : an Illustrated Rock History

A colossal history of rock and roll, from its blues and country roots at the turn of the century to 1974. The fruit of years of research, with this work I wanted to create a comprehensive portrait that combines the protagonists with the places and anecdotes that transform the vision into a play of references and quotations.

A Monumental Work Created Over Years of Research

The project is the result of several years of historical research and over three years of continuous drawing. Every figure, building and reference has been carefully documented and positioned within a coherent visual structure.

The scale of the work allows the viewer to perceive both the global architecture of the composition and the microscopic richness of its details, creating a rare balance between complexity and readability.

The drawing includes more than 1,300 illustrated musicians, bands, producers and historically relevant locations, each represented through recognizable visual cues and symbolic references.

Hidden details, visual jokes and subtle narrative connections enrich the composition, transforming the viewing experience into an ongoing discovery process. Many elements reference well-known anecdotes, while others reveal lesser-known curiosities embedded in the history of popular music.

From 1900 to 1974 — The First Panel of a Larger Project

This first completed panel covers the period from 1900 to 1974, tracing the evolution from blues, jazz and early popular music to the birth and explosion of rock culture.

A second panel, extending the narrative beyond 1974, is currently in development, expanding the scope of this long-term visual project.

The Rock Icons and Stories project has produced prints dedicated to individual artists, created by digitally coloring the original Indian ink drawings. Find the available prints on the dedicated page on the Fine Art America website. You can also directly access the specific print from the individual artist profiles, if available.

These are decorative versions managed externally. The true Fine Art Editions are those I personally oversee.
