About this Artwork…
Agguato Ink Drawing by Massimo Cravich
This drawing, of which only the scanned Polaroid survives as documentation, as mentioned elsewhere, since my entire photographic archive was destroyed/lost in the 2007 move, is significant for me because it’s the first time I drew several trees. In doing so, I fell in love with this type of subject—the tree—or rather, with the type of expression I developed in drawing them. Is this where family trees and the pleasure I derive from drawing them originate?
The subject also has a curious history behind it. I drew it out of anger and protest (solitary and sterile) after a concrete event. At the time, I lived in a sort of “commune” in the woods by the sea, a splendid time in a wonderful place.
Then real estate speculation set its sights on that stretch of coast, which has now become an ugly marina with luxury apartments. At the time, they decided the first thing to do was evict all the hippies living there, so they conducted a massive raid, complete with fake evidence scattered around to worsen the situation for the occupants. Luckily, I was hitchhiking around Spain at the time, and when I got home, the “home” was gone. This drawing is essentially a vent. Private collection.
